Luke Williams is a major league baseball infielder and outfielder for the Philadelphia Phillies (MLB). Williams was nominated to the US national team squad for the qualification competition for the 2020 Summer Olympics in May 2021.



He started all four of Squad USA’s games and topped the team in batting average (.444), runs scored (six), and RBIs (six).

Luke Williams is the son of Mark and Jeannie Williams. He is the eldest of three siblings, with two brothers and one sister. Williams grew raised in Orange County, California after being born in Park Ridge, Illinois.



He attended Dana Hills High School, where he participated in baseball, football, and track and field. Williams stole 26 bases in his junior season, breaking the Dana Hills school record.

As a senior, he batted.315 with a.454 on-base percentage, drove in 35 runs, had 19 RBIs, and hit four home runs. Williams had committed to play collegiate baseball at California Polytechnic before getting selected, rejecting offers from UCLA and UC Irvine.

Williams made his major league debut as a pinch hitter in the fifth inning of a 9-5 defeat to the Atlanta Braves, putting down a bunt single for his first career hit, moving to third base on a throwing error, and scoring his first career run later in the inning.

The next day, on June 9, 2021, Williams blasted his first career home run, a two-run walk-off home run against the Atlanta Braves in the bottom of the ninth inning. In addition, Williams had a double in four at-bats throughout the game. Following his walk-off home run, Phillies pitcher Zach Eflin dubbed Williams “Captain America.”
