As a safety with the Dallas Cowboys of the National Football League, Malik Hooker participates in professional football. He is 1.85 m tall and 98 kg in weight. He played basketball and football as a cornerback and wide receiver when a student at New Castle High School. He won Male Athlete of the Year honors from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette as a senior.
After graduating from high school, he attended Ohio State University and played collegiate football for the Ohio State Buckeyes. He redshirted his first season at Ohio State in 2014, but he played in every game in 2015. He mostly played on special teams and recorded 10 tackles. In 2016, he took over at free safety as a redshirt sophomore.
He earned the first team All-Big Ten honors in November 2016. Instead of using his two remaining years of eligibility after the season, he made the decision to join the 2017 NFL Draft. Hooker was chosen by the Indianapolis Colts with the 15th overall choice in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft.
He became a free agent in 2021 after the Colts turned down the fifth-year option on his contract in May 2020. Hooker committed to the Dallas Cowboys in July 2021. He recorded 44 tackles and one interception while participating in 15 games and staying healthy. He and the Cowboys reached an agreement on a two-year contract in March 2022.
