His defensive skill has drawn comparisons to Brooks Robinson, the former Oriole’s third baseman who is now a Hall of Famer. Machado was dealt to the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2018 as an imminent free agent and helped the team win the World Series.

Machado signed a 10-year, $300 million contract with the Padres that winter, making it the largest contract in North American sports history at the time.
