Manuel Arturo Machado is a 29-year-old American professional baseball third baseman and shortstop for the San Diego Padres of Major League Baseball. He was born on July 6, 1992.
He was born and raised in Miami, where he attended Brito High School and was selected third overall in the 2010 Major League Baseball draft by the Baltimore Orioles. He bats and throws with his right hand.
Machado debuted in the Major League Baseball in August of 2012. In 2013, Machado had a breakout season, earning a position on the American League (AL) All-Star team and leading the league in doubles with 51.
He was also a Gold Glove Award winner as one of the top fielders in the game. In 2015, Machado won his second Gold Glove, and in 2015, 2016, and 2018, he was named to the All-Star Game.
His defensive skill has drawn comparisons to Brooks Robinson, the former Oriole’s third baseman who is now a Hall of Famer. Machado was dealt to the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2018 as an imminent free agent and helped the team win the World Series.
Machado signed a 10-year, $300 million contract with the Padres that winter, making it the largest contract in North American sports history at the time.
