Marcus Elliot Jones plays cornerback and kickoff returns for the New England Patriots of the National Football League. He attended Troy and Houston during his college football career before being selected by the Patriots in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft.

Jones was born and raised in Enterprise, Alabama, and went to Enterprise High School, where he was part of the football and basketball teams. As a senior, he had 27 tackles on defense, had five interceptions, broke up 16 passes, returned three punts and one kickoff for touchdowns, and was named all-state.

Jones’s first collegiate football career dates back to Troy University. As a return specialist, he was named the Sun Belt Conference Freshman of the Year after returning 30 kickoffs for 879 yards and three touchdowns and another 14 for 121 yards.

He also made two defensive pass interceptions, one of which he recovered for a score. He was selected to the second team as a cornerback as a sophomore after intercepting one pass and breaking up eight passes.

As a sophomore, he was chosen first-team All-Sun Belt as a return specialist after returning 23 kickoffs for 584 yards and one score. Jones enrolled in the transfer portal following his sophomore year and subsequently declared his intention to transfer to the University of Houston.

Marcus Jones was born in Louisiana to his mother Viola and his dad Marc Jones. Since his father is a former army veteran, the family had to move around a lot while he was little. When he was 14 years old, his parents relocated him to Enterprise, Alabama, where he finished the last two years of grade school.
