Marcus Andrew Semien is a Major League Baseball shortstop and second baseman for the Texas Rangers (MLB).



He has previously played for the Chicago White Sox, Oakland Athletics and Toronto Blue Jays in Major League Baseball.



Semien was selected in the 34th round of the 2008 MLB draft by the Chicago White Sox. Semien declined to sign with the team and instead enrolled at the University of California, Berkeley, where he played collegiate baseball for the Golden Bears.

Semien was the team’s starting shortstop as a junior, but his.275 batting average hampered his draft ranking.

Marcus Semien was drafted by the White Sox in the sixth round in 2011. He debuted in 2011 with the Kannapolis Intimidators.

Semien was promoted to the Winston-Salem Dash in 2012. In 418 at-bats, he had 31 doubles, five triples, 14 home runs, 59 RBIs, and 11 steals. On September 3, 2013, the White Sox made him a major leaguer.

On September 4, he made his major league debut against the New York Yankees and hit a single off CC Sabathia. On September 23, he homered against J.A. Happ of the Toronto Blue Jays.
