On November 20, 2019, Mathias was exchanged for Andres Melendez and sent to the Milwaukee Brewers. He was then immediately added to the Brewers 40-man roster.
On August 4, 2020, Mathias made his MLB debut as a pinch-runner. Due to a damaged labrum in his shoulder, Mathias was put on the 60-day injured list on March 16, 2021.
