The Atlanta Falcons selected Marlon Davidson, a defensive lineman who played at Auburn, with the 47th overall pick in the NFL Draft in 2020.
They continued to maintain their status quo, despite further speculation of trades, in order to concentrate on improving their defense over the winter.
Davidson, who is now 24 years old, came into his own during his senior season. In 2019, he finished with 6.5 sacks and 11.5 tackles for loss, both significant increases from his prior three seasons. His elite strength and speed have been praised by scouts. He has a height of 6 feet 3 inches and a weight of 278 pounds.
During his time at the university, he played defensive end with Derrick Brown, who was projected to be selected in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. However, he is more likely to be used as an interior defensive lineman or hybrid in the NFL.
Davidson was selected ahead of other edge prospect players including Zack Baun and A.J. Epenesa, who both had been mentioned as possible draft picks for the Falcons at various points in the selection process.
The Falcons will have a formidable option to start him either opposite of Fowler or next to defensive tackle Grady Jarrett when he arrives.
