He signed a collegiate football scholarship to play for the University of Oklahoma’s Oklahoma Sooners football team and was regarded as a four-star prospect. Hayes announced his intention to enter the 2022 NFL Draft after the season ended. The Arizona Cardinals selected him with the 257th overall pick in the seventh round of the 2022 Draft. On August 30, 2022, he was placed on injured reserve.
