Who Is Marwin Gonzalez’s Dad, Mario González?

Mario González Sr. is a scout and coach in baseball. A park in Puerto Ordaz is named after him in recognition of his worth ethics and popularity.

Mario also coached his two other sons, Mario Jr. and Leonard, in addition to Marwin. Mario also played a role in the development of outstanding major leaguers such as Detroit Tigers DH Victor Martnez and former Los Angeles Dodgers catcher Carlos Hernández.

He also scouted and assisted in the signing of Colorado Rockies starter Germán Márquez.

Mario Sr. speaks fondly of his children, but frankly says he didn’t give them any leeway between the foul lines.

“I was quite strict. I’ve always believed that showing affection at home was more important. “He had to work harder because he was my kid,” Mario Sr. explained.

“I wouldn’t play if I was a minute late to the ballpark.” That’s how our father treated us,” González explained.
