In his junior year of baseball in 2014, in 54 games, he slashed.312/.412/.498 with six home runs and 48 RBIs. Chapman was drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the first round of the 2014 MLB draft after the season ended.

After hitting.244/.335/.521 in 117 games with 29 home runs and 83 RBIs, Chapman was named the 2016 Texas League Player of the Year.

He spent the entire 2015 season with Stockton Ports, a Class A-Advanced team. Athletics invited him to spring training in 2016.

Prior to getting promoted to Triple-A Nashville Sound, he played in 2017 for the Nashville Sound and the Beloit Snappers. He missed the first two weeks of the season because of a wrist injury.
