He attended Menomonee Falls High School where he played football and was named an offensive lineman to the first team of the Greater Metro Conference during his junior and senior years.

At the University of Wisconsin-Madison, he participated in collegiate football for the Wisconsin Badgers football team. Henningsen was chosen by the Denver Broncos with the 206th overall pick in the sixth round of the 2022 NFL Draft.
