Professional football player Matthew Phillip Prater, also known as Matt Prater, kicks extra points for the National Football League’s Arizona Cardinals. He is 1.78 m tall and 91 kg in weight. He attended Estero High School in Estero, Florida, where he played high school football. He spent four seasons as a member of the University of Central Florida’s UCF Knights football team.
During his four years at college, he participated in 46 games and made 50 of 74 field goals, with a long of 53 yards. With 50 field goals, he shares the school record, and his 258 points put him in fourth place all-time. Prater was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Detroit Lions in May 2006. He quickly agreed to a deal with the Atlanta Falcons. He was added to the Miami Dolphins’ practice squad in November 2007. Prater was signed by the Denver Broncos off of the Dolphins’ practice squad in December 2007.
The Detroit Lions offered him a one-year deal in October 2014. In March 2021, Prater and the Arizona Cardinals reached a two-year contract. In Week 6 of the 2021 season, he made all four extra points and three field goals in a 37-14 victory over the Cleveland Browns. For his efforts, he was named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week.
