American professional baseball infielder Matthew William Reynolds plays for the Cincinnati Reds in Major League Baseball. He formerly participated in MLB games for the Kansas City Royals, Washington Nationals, and New York Mets.
In Tulsa, Oklahoma, Reynolds attended Bishop Kelley High School. He participated in baseball and basketball, and Butler, Iowa State, and Furman all expressed interest in him for their collegiate basketball programs.
But he made the decision to play college baseball for the University of Arkansas’ Arkansas Razorbacks.
From 2010 through 2012, he was the third baseman for Arkansas, where he hit .275/.382/.413 over 150 games played, with 11 home runs and 72 runs batted in.
He played college baseball with the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox of the Cape Cod Baseball League after his sophomore year in 2011.
The New York Mets selected Reynolds in the second round of the Major League Baseball draft in 2012. After signing Reynolds, the Mets switched him to shortstop.
In his first season as a professional, he played with the Savannah Sand Gnats of the South Atlantic League’s A division, hitting .259 with three home runs in 42 games.
Reynolds participated in one game for the Double-A Binghamton Mets and 117 games for the High-A Florida State League in 2013.
He made an unimpressive hit. In 436 at-bats, he batted .225/.300/.335 with five home homers.
After returning to Binghamton to begin the 2014 campaign, Reynolds was promoted to the Triple-A Las Vegas 51s after batting .355 in 58 games.
He played in 115 games with the 51s in 2015, batting.267/.319/.402 with 65 RBIs and 6 home runs.
