Matthew Ryan Sokol, a tight end for the New England Patriots in the National Football League, was born on November 9, 1995. He attended Michigan State for his undergraduate football career and started off as an undrafted free agent until signing with the Los Angeles Chargers in 2020, where he earned his first roster position. In 2022, Sokol signed a contract with the Patriots.
Following the 2019 NFL Draft on April 27, Sokol signed a free agent contract with the Los Angeles Chargers. On October 31, 2020, Sokol re-signed with the Los Angeles Chargers practice squad. He was added to the active roster on December 26 in time for the team’s Week 16 matchup against the Denver Broncos but was later moved back to the practice squad. On January 1st, 2021, he was added to the active roster.
The Chargers released Sokol on August 31, 2021. On September 2, 2021, Sokol re-signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars practice squad.
Sokol signed a reserve/future contract with the Detroit Lions on January 12, 2022. On May 10th, 2022, he was released.
The New England Patriots took Sokol off waivers on May 11, 2022.
