Maxx Williams plays as a tight end and he joined the Cardinals in 2019.  He attended the University of Minnesota from (2012–2014)during his college football career and was selected by the Baltimore Ravens in the second round of the 2015 NFL Draft.

Williams sat out his first season as a Gophers player in 2012 as a redshirt. In his first year of eligibility as a true freshman in 2013, he started seven of the team’s 13 games and finished with 25 receptions for 417 yards and five touchdowns.

In 2014, while he was a sophomore, he concluded the season with 36 receptions, 569 receiving yards, and eight touchdowns. Williams made it to the final round of consideration for the John Mackey Award.

Williams skipped his junior and senior years of college in order to participate in the 2015 NFL Draft after his redshirt sophomore season.

Williams was advised by the NFL to return to school for his junior or senior year, but he opted to forego those years and instead join the draft. Williams was the lone tight end predicted to go in the first two rounds of the 2018 draft class, leaving the position without depth.

Williams worked out with Minnesota Vikings tight end Kyle Rudolph in the months leading up to the draft. Williams earned a spot in the NFL combine and finished all the positional drills and combine requirements.
