With the Miami Dolphins of the National Football League, Melvin Ingram III participates in American football as an outside linebacker. His height is 1.88 m, and his weight is 112 kg. In North Carolina’s Rockingham, he attended Richmond Senior High School. He made 87 tackles and 2.5 sacks as a linebacker in his final year.

He participated in collegiate football from 2007 to 2011 for the University of South Carolina’s South Carolina Gamecocks squad. He led the squad with nine sacks as a junior in 2010. He had 15 tackles for loss, 10 sacks, two interceptions, and 15 tackles overall in 2011. 3 touchdowns were also scored by him. A first-team All-Southeastern Conference (SEC) selection, Ingram had a solid senior campaign that helped the Gamecocks’ defense finish fourth in the final national poll.

Additionally, he was acknowledged as a unanimous All-American. In the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft, he was selected by the San Diego Chargers. He agreed to a four-year, $66 million contract on June 11 of last year, with a $42 million guarantee. Ingram was put on injured reserve in September 2020 due to a knee injury. He becomes operational on October 24, 2020.

On November 27, 2020, he damaged his knee again, and was put back on injured reserve. He agreed to a one-year deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers in July 2021. In November 2021, he was exchanged for the Kansas City Chiefs. The Miami Dolphins inked Ingram to a deal in May 2022.
