Pawtucket was Chavis’ first opponent of the 2019 season. For the first time, he was added to the major league active roster on April 19.

The next day, he made his MLB debut against the Tampa Bay Rays, double as a pinch hitter. In a 4–2 loss to the Detroit Tigers on April 23, Chavis hit his first major league home run.

In a 6–5 triumph over the Colorado Rockies on May 15, he hit a walk-off single in the 10th inning. Chavis was named the American League Rookie of the Month for the month of May on June 3.

Chavis had played in 63 games for Boston by the end of June, batting .261 with 14 home runs and 44 RBIs.

He hit his first major league grand slam against Trent Thornton of the Toronto Blue Jays on July 15.

Chavis was placed on the disabled list on August 12 due to a left AC joint strain, and he began a rehab assignment with Pawtucket on August 23.

On September 20, Boston manager Alex Cora said Chavis would likely play in the Puerto Rican Winter League rather than return to the Red Sox for the remainder of the season. Chavis batted .254 with 18 home runs and 58 RBIs in 95 games with the 2019 Red Sox.
