A pitcher for the San Diego Padres in Major League Baseball, Michel Báez Cruz is a native of Cuba. Báez participated in the 2014–2015 Cuban National Series for the Huracanes de Mayabeque and the Vegueros de Pinar del Rio.
He signed a $3 million international free agent contract with the San Diego Padres in December 2016.
With the Arizona League Padres, Báez made his professional debut in 2017. After one start, in which he gave up two runs and struck out seven in five innings, he was promoted to the Fort Wayne TinCaps, where he started ten games and finished the season with a 6-2 record, a 2.45 ERA, and 82 strikeouts in 58+2/3 innings pitched.
