With the first overall pick in the 2016 MLB draft, the Philadelphia Phillies opted to acquire Moniak. When he agreed to a $6.1 million signing bonus with the Phillies on June 20, 2016, he joined the team.

Rookie-league Gulf Coast Phillies welcomed Moniak to the organization in 2016. He spent the entire first season of his professional career there, with a batting average of.



In 176 at-bats, he had a batting average of 284/.340/.409 with 27 runs, 11 doubles, four triples, one home run, 28 RBI, and 10 stolen bases.

According to Baseball America and MLB.com, Moniak is the No. 17 prospect in baseball.

With the Lakewood BlueClaws of the Class A South Atlantic League in 2017, Moniak batted.236/.284/.341 with six triples, five home runs, 44 RBI, 11 stolen bases, and seven sacrifice flies in 466 at-bats.

On top of being rated one of baseball’s most promising high school players (after Bo Bichette), Baseball America also ranked him one of its top defensive players in his draft class, as well as one of its top pure hitters (behind Nick Senzel).

During the 2018 season, Moniak played for the Class A-Advanced Clearwater Threshers in the Florida State League.

To put it another way, he batted a career-high 433 at-bats with a.270/.304/.383 slash line that included five home runs and 55 RBI in 114 games in the Florida State League.

Moniak was invited to Phillies spring training camp in 2019. With the Reading Fightin Phils of the Class AA Eastern League in 2019, he hit .252 with 28 doubles, 13 triples, 11 home runs, 67 RBI, and 111 strikeouts in 465 at-bats.

He also had 15 stolen bases in 18 attempts, batting .303 with 439 hits. Midway through the season, Moniak was selected to play in the Eastern League All-Star Game.
