On February 24, 1989, he was born and reared in Los Teques, Venezuela. He played baseball throughout his childhood and up until 2006 when the Cincinnati Reds signed him as an amateur free agent. The Reds forced him to play in their minor league system because of his age from the moment they signed him until 2012.
He finished the year playing for the AAA Louisville Bats. After playing for the Chattanooga Lookouts of the Class AA Southern League for the 2013 season, he later signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Dodgers assigned him to play for the AAA Albuquerque Isotopes in the 2014 minor league season.
