He faltered in 2021 after two very successful seasons, slashing .187/.266/.347 for a wRC+ of 73 and a -0.2 fWAR or 1.0 bWAR.

In 2021, his slugging percentage was boosted by the fact that half of his hits were extra bases, but he also had an abnormally low BABIP of .245, significantly lower than his career mark of .319 and lower than what he had seen in both 2020 (.412) and 2019. (.345).

Despite his age, Brosseau has only 409 career plate appearances, 16 career home runs, and a career wRC+ of 106.

Brosseau appears to hit left-handed pitchers better than right-handed pitchers, as evidenced by his career 131 wRC+ against lefties and 74 wRC+ against righties.

He has a lifetime slash line of .277/.336/.515 against southpaws, with fewer strikeouts.

Brosseau appears to have pretty similar splits at Tropicana Field and away from it, unlike another former Ray Willy Adames, who had horrible splits at Tropicana Field.

He has a 108 wRC+ in Tampa Bay and a 104 wRC+ elsewhere in his career.

He also became more of a pull hitter in 2021 than he had been previously.

Brosseau appears to be on his way to joining the Brewers’ bench as a right-handed utility man to complement or replace Jace Peterson.

It appears that replacing Peterson as the utilities man makes economical sense. Brosseau is not yet arbitration eligible, but Peterson is. He is expected to receive $1.3 million in arbitration.

Brosseau may also be more desirable to have than Peterson in terms of roster construction, as Brosseau has two minor league options left while Peterson has none.

Because the Brewers like to move players back and forth from the minors, having minor league options is essential.

Tampa Bay will receive RHP Evan Reifert, a 22-year-old right-hander who pitched well for Wisconsin and Carolina in his 2021 season. In 60 innings, Reifert had a 2.10 ERA, 103 strikeouts, and a.168 batting average against.
