In 1987, Mike Minor was born on December 26, 1987, in Cincinnati, and went on to play professional baseball with the Cincinnati Reds in Major League Baseball (MLB).

In the 2009 Major League Baseball draft, the Atlanta Braves selected him with the seventh overall choice. The Kansas City Royals, the Texas Rangers, and the Oakland Athletics have all used Minor as a pitcher in Major League Baseball (MLB).

Minor was selected by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in the 13th round of the 2006 Major League Baseball Draft after a stellar high school career at Forrest School in Chapel Hill, Tennessee.

Minor was picked by the Devil Rays following his senior season in 2006. His decision to attend Vanderbilt University was the reason he did not sign the contract.

Minor shared the field with future first-round draft selections Pedro Alvarez and David Price while at Vanderbilt University.
