Mitchell Evan Haniger is an American professional baseball outfielder for the Seattle Mariners of Major League Baseball. He was born on December 23, 1990. Previously, he was a member of the Arizona Diamondbacks. Haniger, a 2012 NCAA All-American, was signed by the Milwaukee Brewers after being selected in the supplemental area of the first round of the MLB draft.
Haniger was a member of the West Catholic Athletic League at Archbishop Mitty High School in San Jose, California. While still a minor league talent, he was sent to the Diamondbacks in 2014.
At the end of the first round of the 2012 MLB draft, the Milwaukee Brewers picked Haniger as a supplemental draft pick with the 38th overall pick. The Brewers received the choice with which Haniger was picked as part of the compensation package for losing slugger Prince Fielder to the Detroit Tigers during the 2011-12 offseason.
The Brewers traded Haniger and Anthony Bandas for Gerardo Parra on July 31, 2014. Haniger was assigned to the Mobile BayBears of the Southern League. Haniger, Jean Segura, and Zac Curtis were traded to the Seattle Mariners on November 23, 2016, in exchange for Taijuan Walker and Ketel Marte by the Arizona Diamondbacks.
