To play college football for the Michigan State Spartans after high school, he committed to Michigan State. He participated in two contests there, recording one sack, before redshirting in 2014. Against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 15 of the 2021 NFL season, he recorded a sack and forced a turnover. Sweat’s fifth-year option under his contract was exercised by the Commanders in April 2022.
