Nelson Ramón Cruz Martnez Jr. is a Dominican-American professional baseball designated hitter and right fielder for the Washington Nationals.

He was born on July 1, 1980, in the United States. He began his career in Major League Baseball with the Milwaukee Brewers and went on to play for the Texas Rangers, Baltimore Orioles, Seattle Mariners, Minnesota Twins, and Tampa Bay Rays in the past.

During 2010s, Cruz was the only player to hit more home runs than he did with 346. This was the most number of home runs hit by any player during that decade.

On July 1, 1980, Cruz was born in Las Matas de Santa Cruz, which is located in the Dominican Republic. His grandfather, Nelson Cruz Sr., was also a baseball player in the Dominican Republic at the professional level.

Cruz and his two sisters, Nelsy and Olga, were brought up in a prosperous Dominican community by their parents, both of whom are accomplished academics.

His parents reared Cruz and his sisters in the neighbourhood. When Cruz was younger, he was more interested in playing basketball than baseball.

Cruz played for the Dominican Republic Junior National Basketball Team when he was a youngster. His childhood hero was Michael Jordan and the Dominican Republic.

 

In addition to that, he polished shoes and taught himself how to repair them. In September of 2012, he made a donation of $20,000 to Las Matas de Santa Cruz to go toward the purchase of a firetruck. He also asked AMR for their assistance in giving two ambulances.
