As a freshman, he slugged .281/.357/.360 and allowed 16 runs in 6 2/3 innings of work. With 39 runs scored in 55 games and no pitches, the second baseman improved his hitting line to .305/.370/.385 in 2010.

In 51 games as a junior, he batted.293/.404/.376 and drove in 46 runs. He was a four-year starter for the University of Florida.

He had a .195 batting average against lefties and a.226 batting average against righties. He ranked third in Carolina League ERA behind Cody Anderson and Blake Schwartz and sixth in victories.

For Rangers minor leaguers, he had the most victories, was third in ERA among pitchers with more than 100 innings, and was fourth in strikeouts (between Carlos Pimentel and Neil Ramirez).
