During the 2014 season, pitcher Nick Martinez made his big league debut.


A freshman at the university, he batted .281/.357/.360 and threw six-and-a-half innings with 16 earned runs (16 R).

In 2010, the second baseman had a batting line of .305/.370/.385 with 39 runs scored in 55 games while also failing to pitch.

In 51 games as a junior, he batted .293/.404/.376 and drove in 46 runs. Runs and walks put him 8th and 2nd place in the Atlantic-10 Conference respectively. On the mound, he went 3-3 with three saves and a 2.75 ERA in three starts back.


As an 18th-round draft pick from Fordham University, he is currently playing for the Texas Rangers of the Major League Baseball.

The scout was Jay Heafner. After spending much of his undergraduate career as an infielder, Texas used him as a starting pitcher.

With the AZL Rangers and Spokane Indians, he began his professional career that year. After moving up to A ball, he had a 2.30 ERA and 56 strikeouts over 58 2/3 innings, with a 1.83 ERA in the AZL and a 2.54 ERA in the minors.


As part of the South Atlantic League’s Hickory Crawdads in 2012, he was promoted. In 31 games, 20 starts, and 117 1/3 innings, he had an 8-6 record with a 4.83 ERA and a 109/37 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

It all started with the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, where he went 10-7 and 2.87, before being promoted to the Frisco Rough Riders of the Texas League in early August and going 2-0 and 1.12.

A total of 12-7, 2.50 was his overall record. With 128 strikeouts over 151 1/3 innings, he allowed just 117 hits. He kept left-handed batters to a .195 average and right-handed batters to a.226 average.

Third in Carolina League ERA behind Cody Anderson and Blake Schwartz, sixth in victory total.

For Ranger’s minor leaguers, he had the most victories, was third in ERA among pitchers with more than 100 innings, and ranked fourth in Ks among those who threw more than 100 innings (between Carlos Pimentel and Neil Ramirez).
