To begin his professional career, Maton played for the short-season Williamsport Crosscutters and batted .252 with two home runs, 13 RBIs, 34 runs scored, and ten stolen bases in 58 games.

In 2018, he played for the Lakewood BlueClaws of the South Atlantic League, where he batted.256 with eight home runs and 51 RBIs in 114 games.

Before being promoted to the Double-A Reading Fightin Phils for the remainder of the season, Maton played his first season in the Florida State League with the Class A-Advanced Clearwater Threshers, where he hit .276 with five homers, 14 doubles, and 45 RBIs.

During his 21 appearances with Reading, he slugged.210 with two home runs. After the season, the Phillies selected Maton to play for the Scottsdale Scorpions in the Arizona Fall League.

By Baseball America, Maton was ranked as one of the top 10 prospects in the Phillies organization for 2020.

The year’s minor league season was canceled due to COVID-19, hence he didn’t play any games in 2020.

After the 2020 season, the Phillies added Maton to their 40-man roster.

Maton was promoted to the Phillies on April 19, 2021, after being sent to the team’s alternate training camp for the start of the 2021 season.

A single off the pitching of San Francisco Giants starter Kevin Gausman was his first major league hit that night as the starting shortstop.

When Maton began his professional career, he went six games without a hit with multiple hits in each of the last four games.

In a game against the Toronto Blue Jays on May 16, 2021, he smashed his first and second home runs of his MLB career.
