Nicolaus Tanner Mears (born October 7, 1996) is a pitcher for the Pittsburgh Pirates in Major League Baseball (MLB). He made his Major League Baseball debut in 2020.
In his first complete professional season, Mears reached the Double-A Altoona Curve, however, he spent the majority of the year with the High-A Bradenton Marauders. Across three levels in 2019, Mears threw 46.2 innings, striking out 69 batters while walking only 18, and posting a 3.28 ERA while exclusively pitching out of the bullpen.
Mears was promoted to the main leagues for the first time on August 8, 2020, and made his major league debut that night against the Detroit Tigers, pitching one inning and conceding one run.
That season, Mears made four appearances with the Pirates, pitching five innings and allowing three runs. Mears began the 2021 season at the Alternate Training Site and joined the Triple-A Indianapolis Indians when their season began in May.
Recalled to the Pirates for the first time on May 26, he didn’t make an appearance until his fourth stint with the major league team, which began on July 20.
Professional pitcher, Nick Mears currently has no child, he is a young prospect and as such, he is focusing on his career at Pittsburgh Pirates.
