He was the team’s wide receiver as a freshman before switching to the position the following year. In his junior year, he made 101 of 179 throws for 1,707 yards and 21 touchdowns.

As a senior, he switched back to wide receiver and was selected for the state’s first team after catching 30 receptions for 619 yards and eight touchdowns. He had the option to play collegiate football for Temple or Appalachian State, but he selected Duke. He played college football for the Duke Blue Devils during collegiate football career.

In his rookie season, he hauled in five passes for 37 yards and two scores. He participated in each of Duke’s 13 games, and in his sophomore year, he caught 20 passes for 234 yards and one touchdown. He was voted second-team All-ACC and second-team All-American by The Walter Camp Football Foundation as a junior after hauling in 51 passes for 392 yards and three scores.

Using the 162nd overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, the Kansas City Chiefs selected Gray in the fifth round. In May 2021, he agreed to a rookie deal with the Chiefs.
