He was chosen to the first team all-Mountain West Conference and first team all-American after participating in all thirteen games the following season.

In 2019, he played in all 13 games and started 12 of them. He also led the team in knockdowns. The 2020 season was shortened by COVID-19, limiting his participation to six games. After being undrafted in the 2021 NFL Draft, Laufenberg was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Denver Broncos. He was released by the Denver Broncos on August 24, 2021.
