Odubel Herrera is a Venezuelan professional baseball center fielder for the Philadelphia Phillies of Major League Baseball (MLB).
Herrera was acquired in the Rule 5 draft from the Rangers in 2015 and took over the regular center field role for the Phillies.
The next year, he was named to the All-Star team and signed a five-year, $30.5 million contract deal.
Herrera had a career-high 22 home runs in 2018, but he didn’t end well and lost playing time after a third consecutive excellent year in 2017.
Up until 2018, he had remarkable maximum exit velocities in each season. Herrera, who was in a competition for the Phillies’ center field job in 2019, was sent to the IL in April with a hamstring strain.
Herrera was arrested in a domestic violence incident in May of this year and charged with simple assault on his girlfriend. Later, his girlfriend decided not to press charges.
Following an investigation into the event, MLB handed Herrera an 85-game suspension that would last the rest of the 2019 season.
It’s the third-longest domestic abuse suspension in Major League Baseball’s history.
