Osawaru Odighizuwa, an American football defensive tackle for the Dallas Cowboys of the National Football League (NFL), was born on August 13, 1998.

At the 2021 NFL Draft, the Cowboys selected him in the third round. He participated in collegiate football at UCLA, where he was named to the Pac-12’s first team.

Attending David Douglas High School was Odighizuwa. He won the defensive player of the year award twice and was named PrepStar All-West as a senior. On May 5, 2015, he made a commitment to play college football for the University of California, Los Angeles.



He was a three-star prospect fresh out of high school. He earned a letter in wrestling and won three consecutive heavyweight state titles. He had gone two years without losing (46-0 and 45-0). For a season, he also ran track.

He participated in all 13 games as a reserve defensive tackle as a redshirt freshman. He recorded 15 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, one sack, and was tied for seventh on the team with 5.5 tackles for loss. In the game against the University of Oregon, he made 3 tackles and one sack. In his 51-yard score against the University of Washington, he returned a fumble.

Against the University of Hawaii, he recorded two tackles for a loss and one sack. He played in 11 games as a sophomore, starting the final 8 at defensive tackle.

He had 29 tackles, 3 sacks, 6 tackles for loss, 2 pass breakups, and was tied for second on the team with 3 sacks. Against the Universities of Colorado and Washington, he made 5 tackles.

Odighizuwa was listed as a starting defensive tackle on the Cowboys’ depth chart for training camp with seasoned player Neville Gallimore.

This was Odighizuwa’s first training camp in the NFL. Trysten Hill and Chauncey Golston were his rivals for the position at first. Head coach Mike McCarthy formally announced Odighizuwa as the starting defensive lineman at the completion of the NFL preseason.

In the Week 1 loss against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the Cowboys, Odighizuwa made his NFL debut and first start of his career.

He only contributed one assist in the defeat, making for a subdued start. For the first two games of the season, Odighizuwa was pretty quiet, but in Week 3 against the Philadelphia Eagles, he played outstandingly.
