Oscar Mercado was born on December 16,11994 in Cartegena, Columbia. He is a Columbian American baseball player for the St.Louis Cardinals. His family emigrated to the United States when he was seven years old using his father’s work visa.

He attended Gaither High School in Tampa, Florida, and entered the Florida State University where he played baseball for the school team during his academic years. Mercado has a healthy physique and weighs 89 kg and has a height of 1.88m.

Mercado was selected by the St.Louis Cardinals in the second round of the 2013 MLB draft with the 58th overall selection. He signed with the cardinals and received a $1.5 million signing bonus.

Mercado played for the Columbia baseball national team in the 2017 world Baseball Classic and he stayed at the Springfield Cardinals later that season. On July 31, 2018, the Cardinals traded Oscar Mercado to the Cleaveland Indians in exchange for Conner Capel and Jhon Torres. He was later assigned to the Columbus Clippers of the Class AAA International League after which he finished the season there.
