Otto Lopez, full name Otto Ariel Lopez is a Dominican-Canadian professional baseball player. He plays as an infielder for the Toronto Blue Jays baseball team of Major League Baseball. He is 1.78 m tall and weighs 73 kg.
He was born on October 1, 1998, in Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic. He was signed by the Toronto Blue Jays as an international free agent in July 2016. He began playing baseball professionally in 2017 with the Rookie-level Gulf Coast League Blue Jays. In the 2018 minor league season, he played for both the Rookie Advanced Bluefield Blue Jays and the Short Season-A Vancouver Canadians.
Otto played his first full season of minor league baseball in 2019 where he appeared in 108 games for the Class-A Lansing Lugnuts and batted .324 with five home runs, 50 RBI, and 20 stolen bases. During the offseason, he played in 13 games for the Leones del Escogido of the Dominican Professional Baseball League.
He did not play a game in 2020 as the minor league season was cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Jays added him to their 40-man roster in November 2020 to protect him from the Rule 5 draft. He returned to the Leones during the off-season. He made his MLB debut for the Jays on August 17, 2021, when they played against the Washington Nationals.
