The San Diego Padres selected Miller in the third round of the 2018 MLB draft. He signed a $500,000 contract with the Padres and debuted in the Class A Short Season Northwest League with the Tri-City Dust Devils, where he was selected an All-Star.

He was selected an All-Star after spending the 2019 season with the Amarillo Sod Poodles of the Class AA Texas League. Miller slashed over 130 games.
