Paul Edward Goldschmidt plays professional baseball as the third baseman for the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team. He was born on September 10, 1987, in Wilmington, Delaware but was raised in The Woodlands, Texas.

Paul played baseball in high school at The Woodlands High School. He was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 49th round of the 2006 MLB draft but he did not sign and chose to play college baseball. He attended Texas State University where he played college baseball for the Texas State Bobcats baseball team.

In 2009, the Arizona Diamondbacks drafted him in the 8th round of the 2009 MLB draft. He signed with the team and was given $95,000 as a signing bonus. He made his professional debut that year when the Diamondbacks assigned him to the Missoula Osprey of the Rookie-level Pioneer League.

He was promoted to the major leagues on August 1, 2011, and he made his MLB debut that same day for the Diamondbacks. During the 2014 National League, Paul was made to start the game as the first baseman in the 2014 MLB All-Star Game.

The St Louis Cardinals baseball team purchased his contract from the Diamondbacks in December 2018. Paul had an agreement with the Cardinals to sign a five-year contract extension worth $130 million. The contract will last from 2020 to 2024.
