He contributed to the Crimson Tide’s victory in the 2021 College Football Playoff National Championship with 31 tackles, five tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks and a forced fumble.

During his debut NFL game, Mathis tore a meniscus in his left knee, necessitating his placement on injured reserve.
