Defensive tackle Phidarian “Phil” Mathis presently represents the Washington Commanders of the National Football League. In 1998, on April 26, Mathis was born to the world.

In the town of Wisner, situated in the state of Louisiana, Mathis was born on April 26th, 1998. He started secondary school at Franklin Parish High School in Franklin Parish, Louisiana,
but moved to Monroe, Louisiana, where he enrolled in Neville High School after his sophomore year. He recorded a total of 41 tackles and seven sacks by the end of his senior year.
Despite receiving offers from LSU and TCU, Mathis, a four-star recruit, decided to play collegiate football for Alabama. Mathis made his choice in light of Alabama’s standing.
The Washington Commanders chose Mathis as their top pick overall in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft (47th overall).
Mathis redshirted his first season as a true freshman at Alabama before being chosen to the Southeastern Conference’s All-Freshman team (SEC).
He contributed to the Crimson Tide’s victory in the 2021 College Football Playoff National Championship with 31 tackles, five tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks and a forced fumble.
During his debut NFL game, Mathis tore a meniscus in his left knee, necessitating his placement on injured reserve.
