When it came to competing on the gridiron, the native of Long Beach, California, came on strong much later than his peers. For a while, the track was Bell’s primary focus in his athletic career before he turned his attention to football.
When he was a sophomore at Long Beach Poly High School, home to one of the most prestigious high school football programs in the country, he gave football a try for the first time.
After a while, he made the decision to transfer to Costa Mesa High School in the middle of his junior year. It was there that his future began to take concrete form.
Quinton’s uncle, Nick Bell, a former running back for the Los Angeles Raiders, was a volunteer assistant coach at Costa Mesa High School in 2011, and he was a significant factor in getting Quinton to play for the school’s football team.
However, Bell didn’t start getting serious attention until his senior year in high school.
During his senior season, he suffered a hip flexor injury in a preseason game and a collapsed lung in his second game back on the field, limiting the exposure for schools to see him play.
Having fully recovered from those setbacks, he finished his senior season and graduated from Costa Mesa High School.
He then went to Riverside City College (Calif.), where he did not play football but rather ran track. Despite not receiving any offers from four-year universities, he never gave up on football.
