Montero was born on October 17, 1990. (MLB). He had previous stints with the New York Mets, Texas Rangers, and Seattle Mariners in Major League Baseball.

On January 20, 2011, Montero became a member of the New York Mets organization after signing a contract as an international free agent.

In 2013, while playing for both Binghamton and Las Vegas, he had a combined record of 12-7 with a 2.43 ERA for Binghamton and a 3.05 ERA for Las Vegas. In 154.4 innings and had 150 strikeouts and 35 walks.
