Rhys Hoskins is an American professional baseball first baseman for the Philadelphia Phillies of Major League Baseball (MLB). Hoskins played college baseball for the Sacramento State Hornets.



Hoskins was born in the city of Sacramento in the state of California. He graduated in 2011 from Jesuit High School in Carmichael, California.

Hoskins batted while playing baseball as a first baseman, third baseman, and catcher there. As a junior, he hit 421 with a.544 on-base percentage and 28 RBI.



As a junior, he was awarded first-team all-Delta River League, and as a senior, he was named second-team. He also earned a 4.0-grade point average while playing basketball and football for the school.

He enrolled at California State University, Sacramento in 2011, majoring in business administration and playing college baseball for the Sacramento State Hornets for three seasons.

Reggie Christiansen, their coach, was the only one that offered Hoskins a scholarship.

Hoskins decided to renounce some of his scholarship money so that the coach could utilize it to bring in a pitcher that the squad desperately needed.

He hit.353 with a.567 slugging percentage as a freshman, with 10 home runs and 53 RBIs (third in the conference), and was voted Western Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year.
