Riley Adams is an American professional baseball catcher for the Washington Nationals of Major League Baseball (MLB). He played college baseball for the San Diego Toreros of the University of San Diego. In 2021, he made his debut with the Toronto Blue Jays before being traded to Washington.
He received his education at Canyon Crest Academy, which is located in San Diego, California. There, he competed in both baseball and basketball as a sport of choice for himself. Adams reportedly had a game in which he recorded 31 rebounds while playing basketball.
During his first year at the school, he competed in baseball and was selected to play shortstop for the varsity team. As a sophomore, his coach urged him to move to the catcher so that they could fill the unfilled position there. He made the switch.
Adams was chosen by the Chicago Cubs in the 37th round of the 2014 Major League Baseball draft, making him the 1,099th overall pick. However, he opted not to sign with the team so that he may continue his education at the University of San Diego.
