Roansy Contreras is a Major League Baseball pitcher for the Pittsburgh Pirates. In the year 2021, he debuted in the Major League Baseball (MLB).

Contreras joined the Yankees in 2016 as an international free agent. He pitched for the DSL Yankees and the GCL Yankees in his professional debut season of 2017, going 4–4 with a 4.02 ERA and 34 strikeouts over 53+23 innings.

Contreras pitched for the Staten Island Yankees and the Charleston RiverDogs in season, going 0–2 with a 2.42 ERA and 60 strikeouts in 63+13 innings.

In 2019, he returned to Charleston and went 12–5 with a 3.33 ERA and 113 strikeouts in 132+13 innings.

He did not play in 2020 since the Minor League Baseball season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Following the 2020 season, the Yankees added him to their 40-man roster.

Contreras, Miguel Yajure, Maikol Escotto, and Canaan Smith were traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates for Jameson Taillon on January 24, 2021.

Contreras was selected to play in the All-Star Futures Game in June 2021. He was out for over two months due to a right forearm strain, from June 30 to September 1.

He pitched for the Altoona Curve and the Indianapolis Indians in the minor leagues in 2021, going 3–2 with a 2.64 ERA and 82 strikeouts in 58 innings.

Contreras’ contract was selected to the active roster on September 29, 2021, and he made his MLB debut that night against the Chicago Cubs.

Contreras was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis on April 8, 2022, after starting the season in Triple-A Indianapolis.
