Wilson also claims to be of Native American descent, though he has not specified which tribe he is a member of. Wilson attended Richmond, Virginia’s Collegiate School, a prep school.

He threw for 3,287 passing yards and 40 touchdowns as a junior in 2005, while also rushing for 634 yards and 15 scores. He was selected as an all-state, all-region, and all-district performer. Wilson won the Richmond Times-Dispatch Player of the Year award twice.
