NFL guard player Ryan William Bates is an American who competes in the sport professionally. He plays for the Buffalo Bills. He is 137 kg and 1.93 m tall. His parents, Theresa Strocen-Bates and Norman Bates, welcomed him into the world on February 14, 1997 in Warminster Township, Pennsylvania. He played football for the football squad while attending Archbishop Wood Catholic High School in Warminster Township, Pennsylvania.

At Pennsylvania State University, he participated in college football for the Penn State Nittany Lions squad. He joined the Philadelphia Eagles in May 2019 as an undrafted free agent. The Philadelphia Eagles traded Bates to the Buffalo Bills on August 9, 2019. He started his first game of his career at right guard in Week 16 of the 2021 season before switching to left guard for the remainder of the regular season and the playoffs.

The Bills issued Bates a restricted free agent tender in March 2022. Bates was signed to an offer sheet by the Chicago Bears on March 24, 2022, but the Buffalo Bills countered. The Bills signed Bates to a four-year, $17 million contract in April 2022.
