Charles enrolled at Louisiana State University and played for the LSU Tigers from 2017 to 2019.

As a true freshman for the Tigers in 2017, Charles participated in all 13 games and started nine of them. He was also chosen for the Southeastern Conference (SEC) All-Freshman Team for his performance. As a sophomore, he started ten games as a left tackle for the team.
