Samuel Thomas Hunter Clay is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Washington Nationals of the Major league Baseball(MLB).

Sam Clay as he is popularly called in the world of baseball sports was born on June,21,1993, and is currently 28 years old. Clay was a student of Buford High School in Buford, Georgia. He enrolled at the Georgia Institute of Technology for his Tertiary education. There at the university, he played college baseball for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.

He was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the fourth round of the 2014 Major League Baseball draft when he became a draft-eligible sophomore. He pitched at the Twins from 2014 to 2019 but he was never added to the major league roster. On November 18, 2020, Clay was signed by the Washington Nationals and he was added to their major league roster which was his first in his career.

Clay was born to parents Belinda and Darby Clay. Both of Clay’s parents were supportive of his career and often traveled from Tennessee to Florida to watch his games. He was drafted by the Twins in the 2014 MLB draft.

Although his mother passed away shortly after he started his career, Clay often shared fond memories he had with his mom as he was the youngest of five siblings.

“I really wish she could have been here to see that…She was my biggest supporter”. Sam said as he credits his late mother Belinda for his success.
