Sam Hentges plays professional baseball as a pitcher for the Cleveland Indians baseball team of Major League Baseball(MLB). Sam Hentges played high school baseball for the Mounds View High School in Arden Hills, Minnesota.
During his senior year in high school, he won the St. Paul Pioneer Press baseball player of the year award. He had wanted to play college baseball at the University of Arkansas but decided to go professional after he was drafted by the Cleveland Indians in the 2014 MLB draft.
Sam made his professional debut that year with the Arizona League Indians of the minor league. He spent the 2015 season playing for both the Arizona League Indians and Mahoning Valley Scrappers. For the 2016 season, he was with the Lake County Captains.
In 2017, he was assigned to play again with the Arizona League Indians and Mahoning Valley. He was added to the Indian’s 40-man roster after the 2018 season. The 2020 minor league season was cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Indians promoted him to the major leagues in April 2021. He made his MLB debut on April 20 that year for the Indians when they played versus the Chicago White Sox.
