Sam Hilliard is an American professional baseball outfielder for the Colorado Rockies of Major League Baseball (MLB).

Following the conclusion of the 2018 campaign, he participated in the Arizona Fall League. After the conclusion of the 2018 campaign, the Rockies included him on their 40-man roster. He started off the year 2019 playing with the Albuquerque Isotopes.

Hilliard was elevated to the major leagues by the Rockies on the 27th day of August 2019. That same night, he made his first appearance in a major league game against the Boston Red Sox and recorded his first major league hit, a two-run home run off of Josh Smith.



Hilliard posted a batting line of.210/.272/.438 with an ugly strikeout percentage of 38% during the 2020 season that was cut short due to the pandemic. As a result of this, the Rockies decided to acquire Kevin Pillar and optioned Hilliard to the Rockies’ alternate location.

Sam Hilliard is the youngest of the three sons that the Hilliard family has. Tamara Hext, Hillard’s mother, won the title of Miss Texas in 1984 and placed fourth runner-up in the Miss America Pageant in the same year. Hillard was named after his mother.

His father, Jim Hilliard, was an orthopedic surgeon for the better part of three decades and a former player for the Texas Longhorns football team. Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis was identified as the cause of Jim Hilliard’s symptoms in March of 2018.
