Sam Howard is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Detroit Tigers of Major League Baseball (MLB). He previously played for the Colorado Rockies and the Pittsburgh Pirates.

In the middle of the season, he was promoted from Altoona to the Indianapolis Indians. During the season, he also pitched in one Bradenton game.

At Cartersville High School in Georgia, Howard was a student. The Chicago Cubs drafted Howard in the 48th round of the 2011 MLB draft, out of high school. Howard has been with the Cubs since 2011.

For the Georgia Southern Eagles, he attended Georgia Southern University instead of signing with Chicago.

He was a member of the Cape Cod Baseball League’s Harwich Mariners in 2013. In the third round of the 2014 MLB draft, the Colorado Rockies picked Howard, who was the 82nd overall pick.

He agreed to terms with the Rockies and inked a six-year, $672,100 contract with them. A rookie in the Pioneer League, Howard played all of 2014 with the Grand Junction Rockies, going 1–3–1 with a 5.40 earned run average (ERA) in 14 games.
